Taiyuan is an ancient city once known as “the Dragon City.” It is the ancestral home of the Wang lineage (one of China’s most common names). Settlements in the Taiyuan region date back to Neolithic times. The town, then known as Jinyang, was founded some 2,400 years ago. Its location in a valley near the Fen River put it near the invasion routes from the nomadic regions in the north to the agricultural heartland near the Yellow River. There are many mountains around here from east to west and in the north, there are rivers and plains in the middle part and northern part. Taiyuan's main topography is download, the plain only occupies five percent of the area. It is the continental climate in Temperate Zone. The annual precipitation is 456mm and the black frost period can last 170 days. Taiyuan covers an area of 7 thousand square kilometers,it is located halfway between Beijing and Xi'an with a major expressway linking it to Beijing.
